1. Description
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is a highly developed and versatile
item of forensic equipment and yet it remains easy and intuitive to learn and
use. It provides copying and analysis of drives using Windows XP operating
system. The custom designed unit uses standard components and sub-assemblies of
the highest quality, configured in such a way as to maintain maximum evidential
integrity. Hardware and software modifications are tailored to the needs of
forensic investigation, enabling the investigator to accurately and efficiently
perform computer forensic analysis.
At the heart of the unit is an Intel Pentium 4 3GHz processor and motherboard
with 1GB RAM. The comprehensive suite of forensic software programs supplied by
Access Data are fully installed and configured on the forensic analysis drive.
Complex analysis tasks are easily performed with the click of a mouse.
There is also a further large partition that can be used for storing data, work
in progress and for individual case analysis. In addition a second working hard
disk is provided in a removable bay. This is ideal for specific case analysis
and makes the equipment very versatile in use.
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is supplied complete with two external
interfaces connected by USB2 ports. One of these interfaces is hardware write
protected and the other can be used for both read and write operations. This
makes them ideal for safely copying and analyzing suspect hard drives.
The unit is supplied complete with all connectors, a DVD/CD drive and a 17" TFT
flat screen "non-glare" monitor.
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is a comprehensive and adaptable piece
of equipment supplied fully installed and configured with all the software
required to immediately commence computer forensic analysis.
2. Recommended Areas of Use
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is designed for use in the laboratory.
It can be used to both copy and analyse suspect hard drives.
A mobile version, the DIBS® Mobile Forensic Workstation is ideal for use in the
field.
3. Forensic Soundness
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is dedicated forensic equipment that is
used solely for the forensic analysis of suspect computer data. The basic
development and design was completed nearly 10 years ago. Refinements have
continued to be made as computer technology and forensic techniques have
advanced. The result is a piece of equipment that can be used with confidence
that maximum levels of evidential integrity and security are being maintained.
The DIBS® Advanced Forensic Workstation is ideal for use under standard
operating procedures. The less skilled analyst can quickly learn basic
functions, whilst the more technically advanced can customise the unit to meet
the demands of the complex investigation.
Forensic workstations should be operated and maintained in a secure
environment. It is preferable that they are stand alone units and are not
connected to a network or to the Internet. This ensures maximum evidential
integrity and security.

be checked by the use of more than one type of software. The DIBS® Advanced
